Old distillery - Brennhüsi

Location: old village center

Renovation: 2015/16

Current use: Distillery

The Brennhüsi is located in the old part of the village of Salgesch, surrounded by old Valais wooden houses. It was probably built at the beginning of the 20th century with natural stone and covered with a stone roof. The original kilns and the associated cooling system can still be found inside. You can also still see the Trächa, which led the smoke and the typical aroma of the distilled schnapps outside via the chimney. Distillation took place in this official village distillery mainly from October to April. The main product was Marc de Dôle, of which around 10 liters were produced per distillation at a price of 50 centimes. Later, the price per distillation was increased to 1 franc. Public distilling ceased at the beginning of the 1970s.

This fief distillery was set up and run by Emil Marty and continued by his daughter Joseli and son-in-law Emil Mounir. Today, the building is owned by Blanca Imboden-Mounir, daughter of Emil Mounir.
